F.A.Q

Leif Asks: Something is not working as expected!

Leif says: Power of the main switch or unplug the wall socket and restart the Onkyo and everything works flawlessly!

Rob Asks: Browsing is a little slow, will it be faster after an update?

OnkyTroller Says: Yes, it will be faster! Next update is coming soon. Fixed some bugs that made browsing too slow. Fixed, OnkyTroller should be fast now!

Shane Asks: Will you be able to make this work on my acer a500 tablet?

OnkyTroller says: I think the acer has Honeycomb? I’ll have a look at that soon and contact you when it’s ready! Fixed: OnkyTroller supports all android versions between 2.1 – 3.1

Adam Asks: I couldn’t see a “volume control” on the app. I was under the impression the full version had this feature?

OnkyTroller says: With both Free and Pro version you can change volume with the volume buttons of your phone! In the next release I make a screen where you can adjust volume, bass and trebble. Fixed: Pro Version has a screen to adjeust volume, bass and treble!

Jim Asks: I can’t browse my media server and internet radio when I control zone 2 or 3

OnkyTroller says: The Onkyo does not send any information over the network about playlists, mediaserver, internetradio etc of zone 2 and 3. All it sends is ‘Now Playing’ information (Artist/Station/Album/Song/Time/Duration/Album Art). The only thing I can show is a track number. Browsing is not possible. In my next update I will include the track number ( something like 03/11, which means playing song 3 of 11/ channel 3 of 11). A work-around is to set zone 1 to the same source as the zone you control. Of course that is only possible when zone 1 is not used for another source!

Chris asks: I’m having some issue. Getting an error saying no route to host. Have checked all settings,  please advise.

OnkyTroller says: please read http://www.onkytroller.com/?page_id=22

I recently purchased the PRO version, and when the OnkyTroller Pro is connected to my receiver, I’m still getting the short interruptions in music play every so often as I saw in the free version. Am I doing something wrong?

    • onkytroller says:

      Hi Jason,

Did you select ‘Minimize Data’ in the Settings menu?
When OnkyTroller connects there is always a short burst of commands to request the current status of each setting. If you enable ‘minimize data’ there is only communication if you change a setting (e.g. volume, listening mode) or browse the music server.

      I hope this helps.

      Laurent

  2. Chris says:

If I try to browse Internet Radio Stations or Media Server, I don’t see any browsing informations on my mobile (Motorola Defy) only on my receiver (TXNR 3007).

    Chris

    • onkytroller says:

I am sorry Chris, The TX-NR ***7 series do not support the browsing of Media Server/Internet Radio over ethernet.

  3. John says:

I would to know if I can play the music on my phone with this App. on the Onkyo 609. Thanks

    • onkytroller says:

This app does not ‘play’ music. It controls the Onkyo Receiver to select the music from your music library or internet radio, and to make some settings in your receiver like volume, source and listening modes.

  4. Leif says:

I just purchased the Pro version. I have a problem I never get anything else than the volume bar in the diplay regardless of what source I am using. Also if I want to use the: “Assing to current sound” under the source setting it does not work if I have used the +/- to find the source. I have a TXNR-609 What am I doing wrong?

    • onkytroller says:

Hi, Thanks for buying OnkyTroller Pro. Please check your network settings in your receiver. Is ‘Control’ enabled in the network settings?
Did you connect to the receiver with the lightning button, is it green?

  5. Leif says:

Thank you for the fast reply. Yes the “control” is enabled on the receiver. The lightning button is green. I can do all commands except power off. Should the power button be green when the receiver is turned on? Can it be because I firmware updated the receiver?

    • onkytroller says:

Hi Leif! The Power button should be green! I think this problem is a problem in the firmware of the receiver. My friend has a 709 and he is not able to power on/off the device with the official IPhone app as well. I will investigate this soon.

      • Leif says:

I solved the problem by doing a hard reset of the reciever. (VCR+Power). This solved the problem and every thing is working great now thanks for your time and support!

  6. fdf says:

hallo, I’d like to know if this application can browse my dlna server content and remote control an ONKYO TX NR 906.
With other app (i.e for ipad) I can’t browse contents and play to my Onkyo but I can only play the current song and go to the next song.

    Thanks

    • onkytroller says:

Hi, unfortunately it is not supported by your Onkyo. Browsing is only available with 2010 models and newer.

      • fdf says:

Hi, thanks for your reply (and sorry for my English).
If it’s possible to send a command for “play the next song”, and if it is possible to browse the dlna server contents directly from my android phone (not with onkyo), I suppose could be possible to send to the onkyo as many “play the next song” as are the songs that precedes the track I want to listen.

        What do you think?

        • onkytroller says:

You mean, you see you are playing song 5 of 60 and you know you want to play song 30/60 OnkyTroller should ‘press’ next song 25 times? I might be able to add this function. Please give my some time cause my holidays almost start!

    HELLO,

I HAVE PR-SC 5507, FOR NOW TRIED WINDOWS PROGRAMM TWONKY TO CONTROL MUSIC FROM SERVER TO ONKYO. GENERALLY WORKS, BUT THERE ARE ANNOYING PAUSES. AS I DO NOT HAVE ANY ANDROID DEVICE FOR NOW (PROBABLY WILL HAVE A PHONE OR TABLET SOON) I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME INFORMATION

    1. IS ANDROID 3.2 OR HIGHER WORKING WITH ONKYTROLLER?
    2. Will cellphones with 3 inches diplay convenient to operate onkytroller?
    3. cOULD YOU RECCOMEND AN ANDROID DEVICE THAT IS FOR SURE COMPATIBLE. a LIST OF COMPATIBLE DEVICES WOULD BE ALSO USEFUL FOR OTHER people, i suppose.
    4. SOME TABLETS DO NOT HAVE ANDROD MARKET; IS IT POSSIBLE TO INSTALL ONKYTRLLER ON SUCH A DEVICE?

    regards

    jb65pl

    • onkytroller says:

      jb65pl,

      1. Yes, OnkyTroller works from 2.1 until 4.0 The interface is the same for all screens.
      2. 3 inch is ok, I suggest to have a resolution of at least 480 x 320 but it also works with 240×320, but not everything is readable
      3. There are 878 compatible devices. All android devices with touch screen and wifi are supported
      4. At the moment you need Android Market to install OnkyTroller, License is checked by Google

      Regards,

      Laurent

  8. JJA says:

I have a PR-SC5509 and the official Onkyo remote app is very slow with Spotify, especially when it tries to create the list of albums by some artist. OnkyTroller (I purchased the pro version) seems mach faster and provides better information (beats me why).

But I would recommend you to put a bit more effort on the Spotify interface because that would really put OnkyTroller ahead. Getting it faster, easier to use and provide more information than the official app, those things are in my wish-list.

Another issue is that I find the user interface very unintuitive. Some others seem to like it, so your mileage may vary. Alternatives?

Best regards and keep up the good work,
    JJA

  9. Jason says:

Great App! Works great with Playbook and TX-NR809.
Can I use OnkyTroller on my laptop to control my receiver?

    Curious,
    J

Hi. I have the pro version and have a problem with Spotify playlists. Everything else is working fine, but I can’t turn shuffle or repeat on. :) I see the buttons for them in Now playing screen, but pressing them doesn’t do anything. Can you help me out?
